PROPS is a Bristol-based charity supporting adults with learning disabilities to achieve their full potential in our community. PROPS have a long standing partnership with the Long John Silver Trust, a local charity which has partnered with us so that our trainees can maintain the barrels in the Treasure Island Trail. The trail is an accessible, safe and fun way to enjoy much of Bristol’s literary and maritime heritage as well as being a great day out. Interpreting the past, building on the future.
A key part of the PROPS vision is for our trainees to carry out meaningful work, regardless of any cognitive or physical impairments. We also ensure that much of our work is community focused, enabling trainee interactions in the real world. This is of enormous benefit to trainees, and also helps wider society to be more inclusive and neurodiverse. Maintaining the Treasure Island trail barrels encompasses horticulture, health and fitness, following instructions, map reading, and many more valuable life skills. Both charities have a mutual benefit from this partnership, and PROPS value the connection greatly and the opportunities it affords our trainees.
