Mary Stevens Park HLF Project

Dudley MBC

Recognising the importance of sustaining and enhancing Mary Stevens Park as a valuable historic and community space, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council submitted a Stage 1 Parks for People application in August 2010, successfully achieving a Stage 2 grant award in December 2013. The £3.1 million restoration project took place between 2013 and 2017, including a combination of capital improvements to restore and redevelop the heritage elements of the site and revenue elements, including a regular program of events and activities and a range of volunteering and training opportunities. Overall, the project was delivered on time and in budget.
The vision for the project was: “Mary Stevens Park will continue to be "a place of rest for the weary, happiness for the children and of beauty for everyone." The restoration will reveal the story of the people and their industry that made the park what it is today and will be in the future - a place for reflection, to get fit and stay fit".
The project was successful with regard to its key outcomes and objectives identified in the Stage 2 bid.
