Bournemouth Parks Foundation (BPF) was founded in 2015 through an application from Bournemouth Borough Council (BBC) to NESTA’s Rethinking Parks Programme. The Rethinking Parks programme pioneered innovations that focused on testing new business models that would enable our parks to thrive for the next century. Through collaboration with local organisations, and with receipt of expert advice and guidance both locally, nationally and internationally an independent charity was established. Four years on, we work collaboratively with the aim to help raise the much-needed funds for improvements and enhancements beyond what the local authority can provide. We have a Memorandum of Understanding which enables our two organisations to work in partnership with the objectives to improve the financial sustainability of parks, implement projects to enhance Bournemouth’s parks, develop the health and wellbeing of the community and increase volunteer opportunities. Together, we have demonstrated that through investment in innovative business models we can enhance parks, raise funds, engage communities and make parks the backdrop for civic life in the 21st Century.
